Fr. Mauro Verzeletti Was Awarded the Order Life and Dignity, Jorge Mario García Laguardia

On Sunday, December 10, on the International Human Rights Day, Fr. Mauro Verzeletti was awarded the Jorge Mario García Laguardia award and delivered by the Human Rights Procurator of Guatemala, Jordán Rodas.

Fr. Mauro was recognized for his more than 20 years of accompaniment of people who had to migrate to other countries, especially the United States due to the social and economic deficiencies that they live in their communities and countries.

El domingo 10 de diciembre, Día Internacional de los Derechos Humanos, el Pbro. Mauro Verzeletti fue galardonado con la orden Jorge Mario García Laguardia y entregado por el procurador de Derechos Humanos de Guatemala, Jordán Rodas. 

El P. Mauro fue reconocido por sus más de 20 años de trayectoria de acompañamiento a las personas que han debido migrar hacia otros países, especialmente Estados Unidos, por las carencias sociales y económicas que viven en sus comunidades y países.

SIMN Policy Director Calls Upon UN Member States to Increase Legal Channels for Migration in Global Compact

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, December 6, 2017 - The Scalabrini International Migration Policy Director, Kevin Appleby, called upon UN member states to increase legal placements for undocumented migrants in the Global Compact on Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration.  Appleby attended the UN “stocktaking” meeting on the Compact in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, December 4-6.

In his statement, Appleby argued that the Compact must set a target for increasing legal avenues for the world’s undocumented population through both regularization programs and an increase in visa numbers.
